Freeing The Muse: A Creative Symposium & Workshop

This course will be a journey through the terrain of artistic creativity and how to approach and heal the Inner Critic that so many artists wrestle with. As we grow, both professionally and artistically, it's vital to continue to approach our work with a sense of play, curiosity, and wonder. We will discuss various ways to keep this sense of play alive in our artistic process. In doing so, we will look at the benefits of creative experiments, collaboration, the fine art of taking risks, how to explore the "big projects" we've been longing to tackle, and how to bring them to fruition successfully. Every class will involve generative exercises where we try out new voices, styles, genres, and artistic techniques. We'll explore methods to jump-start stalled material, ways to create new pieces, and techniques for revising completed work to prepare it for sharing publicly. In the process we will write a lot, experiment with style and voice, and talk about how to keep our creativity flourishing long after the workshop. All levels of abilities and artistic backgrounds are welcomed, from beginners to professional artists.
